living the i-Life

I went for a run by the canal while listening to Bell Jar, a band from Cheltenham. The combination of surroundings, exercise and music brought me to a 'thin place' - where heaven and earth seem to meet, where boundaries seem to blur, where God's presence flowed like water through the present.

My first i-Pod epiphany, then, but hopefully not my last.

Reminds me of the journey back from the LICC xmas do, pleasantly fuelled by red wine and good company i wandered through a pre-xmas london wearing a recently purchased set of earphones that completely cancel out outside noise (http://www.earphonesolutions.com/westoneum1.html)...

this provided me with the surreal experience of my surroundings becoming a 3d video accompaniment to the ipod's soundtrack. Marvellous. (oh, and sorry to anyone i trampled on during my experience, not being able to hear anything other than music does make you a little clumsy :-)

Sounds an idyllic experience of the numinous, Brian. If and when I can work out how to download music from the net onto my mobile's MP3, I might follow suit on my occasional walks in lonely places- forest tracks, the shoreline, up on the Downs, for instance.
In the meantime, I wonder if you can have such a "thin space" experience indoors in the company of around eighty mainly Methodist folk at a circuit conference? I was amazed how moved I was by the sound of a version of Amazing Grace to the tune of House of the Rising Sun this evening- I never even knew there was such a thing til I heard it- coupled with a screen image of a green scene by gentle waters and the soft glow of tea lights lit to accompany prayer. An uplifting experience indeed, made all the more so by the music.
