Dogs are wonderful things. The three we've had over the years as a family all had different personalities; each was a God-breathed gift, a unique and soulful part of creation.
The last of them, Jemma, passed away yesterday. I know that 30,000 children die needlessly in Africa every day - but still, I'd forgotten how much it hurts when someone you know dies, especially when it's your dog.

Condolences. Alex and Abi the labradors died 12 and 22 years ago. Still miss them.
Also condolences, we had cats rather than dogs here in the past, but we were also sad when they died.

My late uncle and his daughter's husband, otherwise typical males and not given to wearing their hearts on their sleeves, both wept profusely and were inconsolable when their respective dogs died.
Maybe it's something about the mutual trust we can have in animals that we can't always have in each other. Condolences again, Brian.
